Srilasree Arumuga Navalar

 Srilasree Arumuga Navalar Born in 1822, Arumuga Navalar was educated at a missionary school. He later served under a Methodist pastor. Thus he had experience in missionary work. He created Hindu schools to teach Hindu students religious practices and rituals from an early age. He was also tirelessly involved in establishing an Acha Gum. With the help of donors, he established Saivaprakasa Siddhalai in Jaffna. the school
Based on his experience in missionary schools, he prepared a curriculum appropriate to the times. Later he pioneered the establishment of many Hindu schools throughout Jaffna. He started the Saiva Paripalana Sabha and the Hindu Education Council and led the way for the establishment of Hindu schools. He started a Saiva English School in Jaffna in 1872 to impart English education to Tamil students. Although it was closed later, his disciples formed the Jaffna Hindu College. He died in the year 1879, having brought great joy to the Hindu people.
