s.w.r.d bandaranaike

In 1951, Bandaranaike founded the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP), which was a populist, socialist party that appealed to the country's Sinhalese Buddhist majority. He campaigned on a platform of Sinhalese nationalism and cultural revival, and his government pursued policies to promote the use of Sinhala language and culture. One of Bandaranaike's most significant policies was the implementation of the Sinhala Only Act in 1956, which made Sinhala the sole official language of Sri Lanka. This move was widely criticized by the country's Tamil minority, and is seen by many as having contributed to ethnic tensions and the outbreak of civil war in Sri Lanka in later years.
